Nuclear Power in Antarctica

A small nuclear power plant was considered the perfect solution for the energy needs of our main base in Antarctica. It was decided later that this was not the best approach and the nuclear power plant was dismantled and every bit of radioactive material was shipped out of Antarctica. My photograph shows the control room of the small reactor.

The nuclear siren pole

These siren alert towers are scattered all over southeastern Massachusetts, within a certain radius of Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth. (This particular one is in Duxbury.) They were all conical bullhorn shaped M*A*S*H sirens as recently as the 90s, but now they all seem to have a monumtental wedding cake on a totem pole design.
