PACIFIC OCEAN (March 21, 2011) - Ship's Serviceman Seaman Kevin Broom stands the forward lookout watch aboard the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) during a vertical replenishment at sea with USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9). Essex, USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and USS Germantown (LSD 42) with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit are currently operating off the coast of Hachinohe in northeastern Japan in support of Operation Tomodachi. Philippine Sea (Jun. 05, 2003) - On board the guided missile frigate USS Ingraham (FFG 61) Operations Specialist 2nd Class Brian Norman from Purcell, OK. defends the ship with a .25mm Chaingun supported by the phone talker, Torpedoeman's Mate 2nd Class Edwin Holland from Fresno, CA., on station 26 during a small boat training exercise. The exercise is being conducted with the support of the guided missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) and the guided missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54). The ships are part of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Battle Group currently conducting battle group operations in the Western Pacific Ocean.
