i3DG / Jitsuro Mase, Tom Nagae

“i3DG” is a playful analog attachment for the iPhone that transforms its 2D display into a multilayered 3D image. By recontextualizing the age-old method of holding a half-silvered mirror up to an image at a 45° angle, the project actually constitutes a timely critique of such popular memes as 3D displays and iPhones. Apple portable media got a major upggrade with the introduction of the iPhone. Originally announced on January 9, 2007 Apple entered the market with its first Smart Phone market. With it signature touch screen and minimal interface that renders a virtual keyboard or custom interface options when necessary. The first generation iPhone has a 2.0 Megapixel camera, portable media functions, internet (including email, web browsing, and Wi-Fi connductivity) as well as text messaging and visual voicemail. First-generation phones were released with quad-band GSM EDGE.

Newton MessagePad 110 (14 years old and still working) and iPhone

I guess there was no Y2K problem with the Newton. Notice the date and event I scheduled here (view large). 14 years old and this thing still works! Note size compared to the iPhone. I should have taken a shot of the Newton's modem. The modem alone is much larger than the iPhone.

Nachdem zunächst auf iPhones eine Datenbank gefunden wurde, die Aufenthaltsort und WLAN-Daten des Nutzers speichert, haben Sicherheitsexperten auch bei Google ähnliches entdeckt.

Smartphone-Bewegungsprofile : Wie das Wall Street Journal meldet, dürfte sich die Aufregung um die gespeicherten Daten wohl nicht so schnell legen. Denn nicht nur Apple sammelt die Bewegungsdaten der Nutzer von iPhone und UMTS-iPad, auch Google Android enthält eine ähnliche Funktion.

Noch schlimmer dürfte für Datenschützer und vorsichtige Nutzer sein, dass der nun als Sicherheitsexperte arbeitende ehemalige Hacker Samy Kamkar herausfand, dass beispielsweise ein Android-Smartphone von HTC entsprechende Daten in Abständen von wenigen Sekunden speichert und jede Stunde mehrmals an Google überträgt. Das Wall Street Journal hat die Ergebnisse von Samy Kamkar unabhängig überprüfen und bestätigen lassen. Einen Kommentar dazu wollte Google gegenüber der Zeitung nicht abgeben.
