Die Organisation IPPNW (Abkürzung für International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War; Name der deutschen Sektion IPPNW Deutschland – Internationale Ärzte für die Verhütung des Atomkrieges, Ärzte in sozialer Verantwortung e.V.) ist ein internationaler Zusammenschluss von Human-, Tier- und Zahnärzten sowie Psychotherapeuten, die sich unter anderem vor allem für die Abrüstung atomarer Waffen einsetzt. 1985 erhielt die Organisation den Friedensnobelpreis

Banners and peace cranes – Melbourne Vigil for Japan

Melbourne Vigil forthe people of Japan suffering the effects of the Magnitude 9.0 Earthquake, Tsunamis, and an escalating nuclear crisis. The vigil was held at the old GPO in Bourke Street Mall on March 17, 2011. The candlelight vigil was to honour the victims of this terrible tragedy, and to show concern for the safety of those exposed to radioactivity from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The vigil was organised by the Medical Association for the prevention of war, the International Campaign to Abolish nuclear Weapons, and Japanese for Peace.

Flashmob die-in protest – Flinders Street Station Melbourne

Ninth anniversary of Afghanistan War remembered in Melbourne with a Flashmob protest. Nine years of Australian defence forces in Afghanistan was remembered by three flashmob die-ins: on the steps of Flinders street station, outside the old GPO, and at the State Library steps today. The last die-in was followed by speakers including Greens member for Melbourne Adam Bandt, and Richard Tanter, Professorial Fellow in International Relations in the Research and Innovation Portfolio, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and Senior Research Associate, Nautilus Institute.
