TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. (AFPN) -- One of five E-3 Sentry airborne warning and control system aircraft receive a traditional hosing-down upon returning here April 28. The aircraft were deployed supporting operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.

Scope work

Airmen from the 960th Airborne Air Control Squadron monitor the skies during the E-3 Sentry 30th anniversary flight March 23 over Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.. The E-3 first arrived at Tinker on Mar. 23, 1977, and Airmen have been conducting the same aerial surveillance mission for the past 30 years.

All under control

SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The Combined Air Operations Center at a forward-deployed location is the "nerve center" for aerial missions for operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. CAOC officials also control humanitarian-relief missions in the Horn of Africa.

Keeping watch

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- Controllers in the Combined Air Operations Center at an air base on the Arabian Peninsula monitor the status of ongoing missions supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The CAOC was the nerve center for all U.S. Central Command air operations when the first air strike occurred early March 20, 2003. Cruise-missile attacks and the start of massive air operations with thousands of sorties a day followed this opening strike. By May 2, major combat was over and the stabilization phase of the operation began.

Opening the lines of communication

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Tech. Sgt. Paul Hendrix tests the strength of the satellite signal here Feb. 3. This satellite system is a satellite hub which receives combat camera imagery from field units throughout Iraq. Sergeant Hendrix is a video intrusion detection system technician deployed from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C.

Iraqi Freedom

Attack controllers receive 2,000th remote receiver

Joint terminal attack controller Master Sgt. Chris Thompson communicates via a remotely operated video enhanced receiver Sept. 21in Southwest Asia. The ROVER, a small laptop with an external antenna, allows the JTAC to see from the eyes of the pilot, ensuring minimal collateral damage.

Out of Africa

ATAR AIRPORT, Mauritania -- Staff Sgt. Sean Stackhouse sets up an international maritime satellite terminal for his deployed mission-support team. The team pulled Soldiers from Africa who were working on the Pan Sahel Initiative. The Soldiers trained the African military in force protection, border patrol and anti-terrorism tactics.

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- B-52 Stratofortress navigators track mission progress during an Operation Iraqi Freedom bombing mission. The venerable B-52 continues to prove its worth in the coalition air campaign for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tuning in

OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM -- 40th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, radar navigator adjusts the Electronic Optical Viewing system during a B-52 bombing mission over Iraq on April 7. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the multi-national coalition effort to liberate the Iraqi people, eliminate Iraqi's weapons of mass destruction and end the regime of Saddam Hussein.
